On Saturday, July 28, 2012, lovers of dance celebrated National Dance Day!
I took three years of “street jazz” when I was a teenager (was described as “jazz meets hip hop”) and have always enjoyed watching live or televised dance performances. A few years ago, I realized I missed taking classes, so I attended a beginner’s belly dance class for about a year and I go to Zumba classes whenever I can. If I could afford it, I would take Latin dance classes. If someone taught Bollywood in town, I would be there every week.
To indulge my appreciation for dance this summer, I’ve been watching So You Think You Can Dance, and on National Dance Day, I traveled to DC to perform the group Zumba routine and watch the other performances.
National Dance Day was insanely hot in DC, and a crowd slowly formed in front of a stage on the National Mall.

I recorded part of the Zumba routine and partial performances from other groups. If you enjoy dance, let it load and check it out! I apologize for any shaky camera work O:-)
Kelly and I followed National Dance Day with a walk to The Sweet Lobby for a cupcake and macarons, which were well deserved after dancing, sweating, and walking.
In the next week or two, my fellow dance-loving gal Kelly and I will visit the theater to see Step Up Revolution. I’m a sucker for dance films!
jaja love it!!! I used to dance for 13 years (tap, jazz & ballet) so love to dance. This would have been so cool to attend. That’s a lot of people dancing.
I always wanted to learn ballet but my mum never let me because ‘ballet dancers have weird feet.’ I mean to address this injustice soon! Looks like an amazing day out!
🙂
Lovely post beautiful, love watching you do Zumba 😉 and giving you a laugh when I join in 🙂
It sounded like a great day out and I know you loved the Sweet Lobby too 🙂
I can’t wait to be there with you *HUG*
I wish I could have known! I’m sure there was super awesome things going on in Austin too!
