I love sports.

I’m not so good at playing them anymore, but I’ve enjoyed watching since I was old enough to hold a plastic bat and my dad started teaching me about different sports.

I love American football and Aussie Rules football. But what the rest of the world calls “football”? Well, I’ve never been a soccer fan. I didn’t see my first game until I was 24, and my energy was a little lackluster.

Now that I’m marrying a HUGE soccer fan and Chelsea supporter, it’s time for me to wear my Chelsea blue, learn a few songs, and finally learn the rules and strategies of the game.

When I visited Gav in May, we went to Chelsea’s last home game of the season at Stamford Bridge Stadium.

A couple of weeks after the game, we returned to the Stadium for a behind-the-scenes tour.

Gav was the most excited about seeing the new Champions League trophy in the museum!

I was more than happy to support Gav’s type of football during my visit, and now I’m looking forward to reintroducing him to my favorite in a few months — American college football.

What’s your favorite kind of football?

🙂 I’m so glad I could take you to a game, not our best, but I’ll bring some Chelsea DVD’s for you to study 😉

I too am looking forward to the start of both the football season there and the football season in England. Chelsea have signed some exciting players.

I know UVA have some new players who we might see in the new season too!

    Cool post babe 🙂

  2. Lindsey says:

I’ve never understood football (the pointy ball type), soccer (aka proper football ;)) all the way!

  3. Amy says:

I’m with you on being keen on certain sports, but not really caring for others. While I could follow baseball (after playing ball for a few years), and I enjoyed watching college football, I didn’t really understand the rules of football (American football, not soccer). It wasn’t until I started dating my now husband that I made an effort to learn the rules of the game, ha! I’m still learning but I’m a lot better off than I was several years ago, when I couldn’t grasp the concept of downs to save my life. 😉

I’d have to say pro-football is my favorite. I enjoy watching college football, but I get really into watching the Atlanta Falcons. I blame it on the fact that my uni didn’t have a football team when I was in school…but they’re getting one next year, and I’ve got season tickets. 😉

    • Heather says:

Amy, you have season tickets for their first season? I’m impressed 🙂 Hope you enjoy!

Because I was raised on college football, I never got into pro ball. My dad’s always been a Jets fan, however, and I’ve started watching more games in the last few years 🙂

      • Amy says:

There are only going to be 6 home games, and it’s a small private school. 😉 Tickets were $75 for the season per seat! It was too cheap to pass up – especially since I have family in the area and it’s only 1.5 hours from where I live now. Plus, we wanted to get in on the first round of seats in the event prices went up, hoping they’d give first dibs to the first set of season ticket holders. Our school hasn’t had football since 1942, so this is a big deal!

Neither of my parents were really into college football when I was growing up, moreso as I got older. In Georgia you’re either a UGA or Georgia Tech fan, and I’m so not a UGA fan. I started watching college football in college, and I was so far behind my other friends who had grown up watching it! 🙂

  4. Deidre says:

I’ve never once got into American Football. But watch Aussie Rules – I’ve been more a tennis girl 🙂

    • Heather says:

D, you’d have to teach me about tennis…I’ve never been able to get into it! Though I do love the Wimbledon traditions of Pimms and lemonade and strawberries and cream!

  5. Erik says:

This is too cool. I always get made fun of here because I’m a fan of the EPL and the big tournaments (World Cup & Euro) and there aren’t very many people to watch games with here in the USA. I’ve always wanted to attend a game and do a stadium tour.

    • Heather says:

I thought it would be great to see Chelsea play in NY this summer, but it wasn’t in the cards. Maybe Gav and I will do that if they come for an American tour next summer. You should do it, Erik!

  6. jade says:

I love sports too- actually I got Bob into watching football and tennis!
