Month in England: Week 1 in photos

Written by Heather

Topics: Experiences Abroad

I’m spending the month of May in England and enjoying 30+ days of seeing Gavin, his family, and our friends. Though this is my 7th trip to England, I’ll be experiencing several cultural firsts over the course of the trip. I’ll be eating plenty of good food. And I’ll have loads of stories to share. For now, here are some photos from the first nine days.

Gav and I celebrated our engagement with friends

Our friend Sinead made us a gorgeous cake!

Several ladies gathered for dinner, karaoke, and cake for my hen night (i.e., bachelorette party).

Nicole is my travel partner, one of my besties, and a bridesmaid.

Of course there was food

We selected a red velvet cupcake and a key lime pie cupcake to share between three of us.

Ghana chocolate macaron from Laduree

Notes Music & Coffee -- rated one of 10 best places for coffee in London

Nicole and I had a veggie filled lunch before indulging in a small cake from Ottolenghi

Nicole and I enjoyed a Pimm's and lemonade in Covent Garden as soon as the sun came out!

Touristy photo to add to album for immigration interview!

I met more of Gav’s family when we gathered for a meal and a birthday celebration.

Gav’s 5-year old nephew, the birthday boy, “really likes me” but still thinks that I “sound funny” 🙂

Happy 5th birthday, Lewis!

We went to Chelsea’s last regular home game of the season

Stamford Bridge Stadium

Gav was born a Chelsea fan and I'm happy to support the team.

Time always flies when I’m visiting England, and I’m very thankful to have an entire month to spend with Gavin and family and friends. Hope you enjoyed a sneak peek at week one!

  1. Good one. Sounds like you’re having a great time!

  2. Looks like you are going to be on a 30-day sugar high 😉
That cake is beautiful, I bet it tasted darn good too!

Annette, it’s safe to say that I’m indulging quite a bit this month O:-) I’m afraid what damage Gav and I will do at Choccywoccydoodah in Brighton next week!

The cake by our friend Sinead was gorgeous. She wowed us all!

  3. Sally says:

Aww, you two are too cute. And the photo of the table with all the cakes and pastries — KILLING ME.

    • Heather says:

Sally, the place with the cakes is brilliant! They are super fresh, well-made healthy food for eat-in or take away and then they have these not-as-healthy GORGEOUS cakes. It’s a little slice of heaven. And they make a great latte. Gav hasn’t been yet, so we’re going this Friday!

  4. Lindsey says:

Oooh the food photos … that macaron looks to die for! Have you been watching Aussie Masterchef? The new season just started and they’re already cooking some amazing food! Macarons have made it in already 😉

    • Heather says:

Lindsey, it was one of the best Laduree macarons I’ve had yet! The ones I had last summer weren’t the best, but the ones I shared with Gav and Nicole the other day were top notch.

I’ve been watching Masterchef Australia and am an episode or two behind — hoping to catch up soon! And darn it, I realized I could purchase the Masterchef magazine online, and I’m very tempted to do so. I *love* Masterchef Australia! So much better than the American one.

  5. Gunther says:

A Chelsea fan? Ah well, nobody’s perfect. 😉 As long as they lose their next game on Saturday…. 🙂

    • Heather says:

I wish we could head to Munich for the game, but we’re very happy to watch it in a pub here with friends 🙂 Sorry, Gunther O:-)

  6. Kyle says:

Love that you celebrated with macaroons and have a photo in a red phone booth…both totally fitting!

  7. I am crazy for macaroons!!! Great collection of photos for your first week in England. 🙂
