Epic East Coast Australian Road Trip

Epic East Coast Australian Road Trip

Tomorrow morning I leave a chilly but relaxing Ballarat for warmer weather and new adventures! Following a 3-something-AM wake up call, I fly from Melbourne to Cairns, meet up with my travel partner, and kick off a 16-day Cairns to Sydney road trip. It hasn’t even begun and we’re already calling it EPIC!

Before arriving in Australia, I planned to spend the second half of July and all of August seeing the coast of Queensland…I just didn’t know how. By the end of my first month, I decided Queensland was an adventure I wanted to share with someone, preferably in our own car, and would be willing to wait for. Just a few short weeks later, Brooke asked if I’d like to join her on a 2-week east coast adventure!

Brooke manages Bootsnall.com’s Australia Blog, and we can’t wait to explore the coast and experience some of the best Queensland (and Australia) has to offer. Armed with a camper van station wagon full of supplies, we’ll have a go at camping, gain heaps of Aussie driving experience, and visit places like Cooktown, Port Douglas, the Great Barrier Reef, Mission Beach, Hervey Bay, and Fraser Island.

We have a two-week time limit and plan to see as much as possible while still leaving some time for a spontaneous detour. It’s an action-packed plan, but I think we’re up for the challenge 🙂

Time to pack!

Ohmigod, 2 weeks?! You are going to be driving for like half of that time! (Granted I took a lazy 7 weeks to just do Cairns to Brisbane).

Loved Mission Beach, went on a fab rafting trip there.

Cape Trib is a MUST DO, but I heard Cook Town was kind of meh. A lot of cash for not much return.

Yes, don’t forget Airlie and Whitsundays!!!

And yay for going to the Aroma Fest!!! I went in 2008 and LOVED IT!!! Filled my chocolate quota for the month:-).

Have a great time! Can’t wait to read about it!

I’m so jealous of this EPIC trip! I love the little updates and pictures you gals are posting. I agree with previous poster, Whitsunday Islands are beautiful. Wish my trip next year would take us up there, but alas, there’s only so much road you can cover in 2 weeks. 🙂 Safe travels!
